This person means a lot to me as its my mom. My mom typically doesn't enjoy being in photos but I thought to choose her, as she has a beautiful smile that sometimes she's too afraid to show off. In all I think she was the perfect canvas. In the natural lighting I think her skin, hat and teeth all really stand out in a cohesive way. Some challenges I faced were finding appropriate places to photo shoot. I found that a lot of the places I had in mind had distracting backgrounds. I ended up taking her picture outside in the backyard of our brick home, that way I could use the gray skies which gave off a darker light to really make her stand out. I eventually chose this photo (the best possible one) because it fit all the criteria: it met the rule of thirds, it had leading lines from the brick wall that directly led to her head, and the lighting ultimately turned out well balanced in "A Smile Like No Other".
